1. How long have you been a member at Hybrid?

I started at Hybrid on November 9, 2011.

2. How did you hear about the gym originally?

Crossfit Journal. I have been reading the CJ for a couple of years now and would frequently read articles about Hybrid and/or Rob. So after starting a new job here in Stamford I quickly realized that “corporate” globol gym just wasn’t going to cut it so I made the decision to finally make the switch to a box.  Lucky for me Hybrid was only a few miles from my office.

3. What is your favorite lift?

My favorite lift has to be power cleans.  It’s a great whole body workout.

4. What is your least favorite lift?

It’s a toss up between running and any movements that involving front squats (thrusters, squat cleans, squat snatches, wall balls, etc)

5. What has been your biggest achievement since starting at Hybrid?

Other than getting up at 5am every morning, I think my biggest achievement to date is learning to workout outside my comfort zone.  After 11 years at my local globol gym I began to feel like a hamster on wheel. I got so accustomed with my workout that I’d barely break a sweat and the only time I’d be sore was if I stub my toe on pec deck on my way to see what was on TV.  Needless to say pushing through the daily WODs has been quite a challenge but it feels great to know that you just pushed yourself to the limit.

6. How many days per week do you workout at Hybrid? Elsewhere?

I live pretty far but I try to get here at least 5 days a week.

7. What movement are you still struggling with and what are you doing to fix it?

Muscle ups…  anything I can.  One of my goals for the first quarter of 2012 is to get 3 reps unbroken.

8. What were your stats, physically, before coming to Hybrid?  Weight?

November 9, 2011: 5’10″ 200lbs; Today: 6’3″ 185lbs… Just kidding. I’ve only been at the gym for 2 months so no weight loss yet (I guess that happens when you start working during the holidays) but my girlfriend has mentioned that I look thinner and I feel a lot more fit than I did prior to joining Hybrid.   Anything else that stands out?   Since I’ve started at Hybrid I’ve been able to set a couple of PRs but the most notable thing that stands out is how much my overall energy level has increased.

9. How has your nutrition changed?

For me, nutrition is the most difficult part of the fitness equation.  What can I say? I like a good bacon cheese burger! Since joining Hybrid things have been slow to change being that the holidays just wrapped up (honestly who wants to start dieting during the holidays).  But going forward, I plan on incorporating more of a Zone approach to my diet without getting to mental about it.

10. What motivates you daily?

Besides becoming a better athlete/physically fit, I love the challenge and competition that Crossfit/Hybrid offers. I’d be a liar if I told you that I didn’t look at the board every morning and see how my time/weights stacked up against the rest of the athletes.

11. What advice would you give to someone who might be intimidated by Hybrid?

Just show up.  You’ll be surprised to see that unlike your typical meathead gym, the people/trainers at Hybrid will not judge you; they are truly there to support and encourage you. The trainers are great assessing your fitness level and tailoring the WOD to suit your abilities.
